State aid
Here you will find information about the state aid rules that are important when applying for funding from the Research Council of Norway.
When is the support from the Research Council state aid?
Project support from the Research Council is normally regarded as state aid when it is awarded to an undertaking. See more about what constitutes an undertaking.
Articles for state aid
The Research Council awards state aid pursuant to the General Block Exemption Regulation for state aid. We use three different articles. The text of the call for proposals in question specifies the article that will be used for the funding.
De Minimis Aid
Grants to undertakings under the application type Coordination and support activity take the form of de minimis aid.
Support for research organisations in particular
We allocate substantial amounts of funding to research organisations and research infrastructures. The call for proposals is designed so that funding goes to non-economic activity at the research organisations/infrastructures, usually in the form of independent research.
Combining support for an R&D project from the Research Council and SkatteFUNN
Many grant recipients wish to combine support from the Research Council for an R&D project with SkatteFUNN support for the same project. Read more about this here.
