International funding
Are you looking to seek funding from the EU or other international organisations? There are countless opportunities in Europe and beyond, both for you as a researcher and for your institution or company.
Horizon Europe
The EU's ninth framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, starts on 1. January 2021 with a total budget of 94 billion euros. Norwegian actors can apply for funding on an equal footing with companies, public enterprises and research institutions in EU member states.
EEA and Norway Grants
The Research Council is the programme partner for the EEA and Norway Grants and has a particular responsibility for informing Norwegian research organisations about the opportunities available under the EEA and Norway Grants.
Joint Nordic calls for proposals
NordForsk announces funding through joint Nordic research programmes in all thematic areas. To be eligible for funding, activities must normally involve the participation of researchers from at least three Nordic countries or the autonomous areas.
European Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs)
Research funding is available under 10 European Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs), each with its own thematic area to address global challenges. Applicants for project funding must be affiliated with an academic institution, company/industry, the public sector or an NGO.
EUROSTARS for innovative business
Eurostars is part of the EU Partnership for Innovative SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe. The partnership is co-financed by the EU.
Innowwide
Via Innowwide, SMEs and startups can apply for funding to investigate new global markets with a partner outside Europe. SMEs can receive €60,000 in funding to explore new markets. The next call for proposals will be launched July/August with an application deadline of autumn 2024.
Other opportunities inside and outside Europe
Participate in international research networks
If you wish to participate in international projects, networks can help you to open doors more easily and provide a stepping stone to international cooperation. The same applies if you are trying to find partners for your own project or to participate in an application for Horizon Europe funding. Formal networks, like COST and MSCA RISE, enable you to work together with your professional colleagues in other countries, with people who have backgrounds in different disciplines and with representatives of other sectors.
